The last few weeks have been an absolute whirlwind. I had two events in March, my in person meet-up AND the virtual babyfur con presentation. Then this weekend my in-laws came up to visit. I am very much looking forward to a slower rest of April.
Both events went very well by the way. It was very, very scary hosting a furry meet-up for the first time but people came! And everyone seemed to have a good time! I’d really like to host another meet-up this summer. It was so nice to spend time face-to-face with other furries. I had some technical difficulties with the panel I ran for BFC, but I was so touched to see how many people showed up for my talk. 🥺 I also got to catch little bits of other panels, which again, was nice! I especially enjoyed the panel about model trains.

At the beginning of the week I finished up the your-character-here I auctioned off for BFC. It was such a delight to get to do a nice big watercolor like this one. I really love how it came out. I think it may be my favorite painting to date.

I have one more commission painting that I should be finishing up tonight for Mwako. After that I have one digital painting and two watercolor badges to finish. I’ve said this a lot recently but I am so pleased how well my watercolors are going over I have one more commission painting that I should be finishing up tonight for Mwako. I’ve said this a lot recently but I am so pleased how well my watercolors are going over. 😊 Since starting to test the waters with commissions I’ve mostly gotten traditional painting requests. I used to NEVER get watercolor commissions. It’s been such a treat to paint for others.

I ALSO restarted animal jam this weekend. I don’t know what made me redownload it, but I did, and I have been enjoying it greatly. I’m a Neopets girlie at heart but the game has slowed to a crawl on mobile with ads. Yuck. AJ has been a much smoother experience and is fulfilling my pet game needs.

I’m in love with my little pets. I made a caterpillar named Dizzybee and a puppy named Grumpytoast. I bought them little gnome hats. I would die for them.

Today it was drizzly and sad. So I dragged everyone to the Lego Discovery center. I have been meaning to go, but it’s quite expensive. Almost $30 a person. I decided my in laws being up was enough of a reason to splurge and have some time out.
The center was small but well done. I enjoyed the little dark ride. The big lego city model was really fun. The did a good job with the Boston landmarks but they were all in the wrong spots! I take issue with the USS Constitution being next to the Children’s museum milk bottle when everyone knows the Boston tea party ship is the one next to the milk bottle, duh.

The quality of the food in the cafe was so-so BUT Dan let me get the dopey little lego lunch box AND the nuggets were dino shaped. Hard to be mad with that.

You built a little minifig at the entrance to accompany you around the center. They had a few spots you could pose your person to take photos. I built a little boat for mine at one point and left it in the display.

I also really enjoyed this giant rainbow tree, all the little hollows had scenes!

On the way out I was going to be very good and not buy anything. But then I saw Dan with a StarWars set so I went back for a race car set that had a hot dog car plus a small box of two extra race cars.

I feel very old saying this but I’ve been disappointed with modern Lego. All the sets are full of small, very detailed pieces. It feels like there catering really hard to the older crowd. They really don’t make many open ended sets any more. I had the pleasure of playing with my uncles’ old sets from the 70s and it was so much fun! There were a ton of gear bits and ideas of things to make with the gears. Plus nice bits for houses.
Of course I have my old bin from the 90s, which is also pretty fun. I like the big chunky blocks. I don’t want to go smaller than a 4 stud block. I do like the modern colors though. The neon green and blue are a lot of fun.
But the cars get me. I want to make little cars and trucks and make them go vroom vroom. I know they make a “creative” box that’s focused around cars so I will definitely have to put that on my wish list. 😊 (And the lego trains. Dan and I agreed we are get a train set next time we have extra money.)
